This Fiasco 2013.
This is one of the shots taken on the night of pushover on a rooftop near the Melbourne CBD. It was a stinker of a day, like 35 degrees or something. But the wind was down and the location was phenomenal.
I’m pretty proud of these pics!
More quality stuff to come.
TF Tour: Day 2
After an awesome first night in Sydney, we got up Super early and hit the road for Byron Bay. It was a pretty long day of driving but we managed to get some photos in on the trip. My personal favourite is the one where troy is licking the big banana.
My poor navigation skills combined with Google maps being super misleading and confusing meant that we got to Byron later than anticipated. Upon arriving we attempted to check in to our motel where we found the owners to be total D-bags and starting having a go at us from the moment we walked in the door. This resulted in Troy and Myself staying at the YHA youth hostel while the others took the gear to the motel. It was an adventure to say the least!
Anyway after checking in, we headed straight to the venue for soundcheck.
Everything in Byron is like 35% more chilled. We rocked up to people breakdancing outside the venue and kids skateboarding inside. The security guard was wearing sandals (not the cool kind) and was also a camera man apparently. The event organisers were lovely also and had set up a table for kids to go eat fruit and make themselves nutella sandwiches. Rad!
The first show of the tour was pretty small but heaps of fun. It was a great chance for all the bands to get to know each other and show their stuff.
This Fiasco killed it as usual. Another particular favourite of mine was Common Bond, a hardcore band from Perth. Despite a small crowd, they nailed it and were super friendly guys too! Another highlight was a guy called Rheese Peters from The Endless Pandemic. I’m no expert in heavy music but I’ve never heard vocals like that before. It was really impressive!
TF Tour Day 1.
We meet at Lachie’s at 6am and hit the road by 6:30. Apart from a couple of rest stops and touristy photos, we just drove all day. At around 5pm we arrived in Sydney at Antony’s house (go and check out The Sweet Apes).
It was super nice to meet these guys and they were extremely generous to have us stay with them. Nicole and Ray being the super talented people that they are, learnt and recorded a cover and I even got to have a 5 minute photo shoot with TSA.
Once we were settled we went out for dinner and to get some supplies then came back to hang out for the rest of the night.
I’m also working on a bunch of behind the scenes stuff including some cool videos. Here’s a before and after from aa recent shoot with In Dreams Like These.
Highly recommend these guys if you like heavy, you can check out their new demo at their bandcamp page. They even have a DJ as part of their lineup which is pretty damn sweet.
PUSHOVER DAY IPHONE PICS
Straight afterwards, I headed to St.Kilda rd where I had a promo shoot with one of my absolute favourite local bands This Fiasco. The location was probably one of the most spectacular that I am yet to shoot, a stunning rooftop courtyard overlooking melbourne. These pictures don’t do it justice. The lighting was perfect and my absolute favourite time of day to shoot. For a young band, they are super professional and comfortable in front of the camera and the result was what I feel to be my best work to date. Finished images are not far away!
If you’re a photographer and you’re reading this interested I can post some lighting diagrams and details, equipment, flash settings, etc. as to how the shots happened!
Just holllllllla and I’ll whip that up :)
Thanks so much for reading!

Pushover day was insane fun! Got picked up by the Brighter at Night crew at about 8:45am and made it to the venue by 9:30. After settling in we had a couple of hours to walk around and see the sights/calm the nerves. It was a big day for the band and I felt honoured to be a part of it.
It was stinking hot that day, somewhere around 35 degreess so having a laminate AAA pass unreal. Watching everything side stage was awesome and access to the band dressing rooms was really handy. Here are some highlights of day, I actually didn’t take as many photos as I would have liked as I was videoing for most of BAN’s set but I got heaps of pre show and post show stuff to help document the day.
To finish off a long and busy day, I had a shoot with This Fiasco on a city rooftop. Conditions were stunning and it was absolutely one of my best promo shoots to date.
Mentone Girls Sec was the last stop on the ‘Pathways’ tour before pushover for Brighter At Night. The girls were an insane crowd, it’s so great to see kids enjoying live music. I wish more schools would do stuff like this for their students.
The full album is uploading to facebook now! If you were at this show or any of these shows don’t forget let the band know if you loved their performance. These guys don’t get paid for this and end up out of pocket to take their music around the country to play for you guys. Having someone tell you that they love what you do is worth more than money anyday and will most likely mean they will come back to your school.
I’ve had an absolute ball at these shows, monday at pushover is going to rule.
Totally forgot to mention that we made a harlem shake video. Bit late to the party but was a heap of fun and the kids went mental.
Have spent a fair bit of time with these guys lately! Their schools tour has been a heap of fun, we’re heading to Mentone Girls Sec tomorrow and finishing with Pushover on Monday. I’m ecstatic, I absolutely can’t wait!
Dear tumblr friends,
you may or may not have noticed but my blog is changing. In 2013, I have big plans. I’ve made some excellent friends in the last 12 months and my photography has gone further than I could have hoped. In a few weeks I’ll be touring with This Fiasco and heading to Byron Bay, Brisbane and Toowoomba QLD. I also get frequent inbox messages with questions about my gear, lighting, photos, etc. so I’ll be using this blog to post technical stuff for anyone interested.
Thankyou for supporting me to this point, even if all you’ve done is read this post. I am ecstatic with how things are going and I believe that this is going to be my year. Motivation is at an all time high.
I’m ready, let’s do it!
